News Synopsis

A 15-year-old girl Mannya and her mother prepared cakes and cookies to earn Rs 35,000 for East Midnapore youngsters and elderly women affected by the Covid outbreak. Mannya Dhelia, a Class XI student, worked with an NGO because she wanted to help. Mannya would send out a gift of sweets and cakes baked by her for every donation made to the NGO.

Mannya, is a student at La Martiniere for Girls. She had read and heard accounts of how the pandemic had exacerbated the suffering of many people. That encouraged her, and she felt compelled to assist. Mannya had started baking at home with her mother last year. As a result, she decided to put her baking skills to a good cause.

The funds were used to purchase stationery and meals for youngsters who attend remedial lessons at an ashram in Thakurnagar, roughly 40 kilometers from Tamluk in East Midnapore. Rations were given by some older women, some of whom are infirm and unable to work. Mannya cooperated with Pukaar, a Bengali NGO that works in rural areas. This, according to the NGO, will go a long way toward inspiring children in the city to do their part.
